Oskar in Tharn Todor

After Riswynn returned to Tharn Todor with the Brawnanvil Shield, recovered from Raven’s Hold, she met a dwarven wanderer, Oskar, who had recently returned from a long journey to the north. These are the stories of their adventures in the spring of DR 1748.

Meta: this was three family one-shots played in spring and early summer in 2021.

Episode 1: The Sleeping Aboleth

Riswynn meets Oskar and Agnor at the The Red Shield, a tavern owned by Oskar’s family in Tharn Todor, to discuss news from Bailon, the forewoman of one of the deep mines beneath the city. She reports that several of her dwarves are trapped, and she is hoping that Oskar and his companions will investigate. Descending deep below the city, Oskar and his companions find a strange chamber, where they defeat a haunted slime creature, discover the ancient remains of the aboleth Xeron, now content to slumber undisturbed, and rescue most of the lost dwarves.

Episode 2: The Celestial Meteor

Ken-to, a stoneborn mystic living in the Yuvanti Mountains, brings news of a strange meteor that crashed in the high peaks to The Red Shield. He tells Riswynn and Oskar about a cloud of black smoke and ash that now hangs over the mountain, and dreams of a fire spreading from the mountain and consuming the land below, as a red hand reaching up from cracks in the ground. Worse, a few days ago a wounded creature staggered down the mountain, warning of a ritual to summon a servant of an ancient evil from beyond this world.

The next morning, Riswynn and Oskar set out for the mountains, heading to Ken-to’s hut. They speak with the wounded creature, and then head into the mountains where they fight and defeat a devil, attempting to complete a summoning ritual.

  • May 18, 1748 DR: Ken-to arrives in Tharn Todor, gives Riswynn and Oskar news of the strange meteor and wounded angelic creature, and asks for help.
  • May 19, 1748 DR: Riswynn, Ken-to, and Oskar travel to Ken-to’s hut to investigate situation, and defeat a devil who is trying to summon more fiends.

Episode 3: The Cultist’s Cave

Several merchant families in Tharn Todor ask Riswynn and Oskar to investigate bandit attacks on the road to Nayahar. They depart the city, traveling along the road, and encounter a group of bandits engaged in combat with Ghemdorn, a satyr paladin, and Eva, an elven druid. After the bandits are defeated, the group speaks with Jenny Honeypot, a halfling merchant who lost several of her crew, and her husband, Mica Honeypot, to the bandit attack. Riswynn, Oskar, Ghemdorn, and Eva agree to investigate, and find a group of bandits in a cave who are under the dark influence of a strange aberration which they call That Which Lurks Beneath the Tide. The group defeats the bandits and rescues Mica Honeypot and the halfling crew. Oskar and Riswynn return to Tharn Todor after parting ways with Ghemdorn and Eva.

  • May 29, 1748 DR: Riswynn and Oskar speak with some dwarven merchants, and leave Tharn Todor to investigate bandits.
  • May 31, 1748 DR: Riswynn and Oskar meet Ghemdorn and Eva, defeat bandits, talk to Jenny Honeypot, explore a cultist’s cave, and rescue Mica Honeypot
  • Jun 01, 1748 DR: Riswynn and Oskar part ways with Ghemdorn and Eva in the morning, to begin their journey back.
  • Jun 03, 1748 DR: Riswynn and Oskar arrive back in Tharn Todor.
